Tea and Cake Tuesday

This is a cake I made for a friend a few weeks ago. It was my first attempt at a carved cake and first attempt at the fondant inlay technique. I learned so much from this. Really enjoyed doing it. Just a reminder to never stop learning.

Also with the holiday season upon us I’m really into mint teas. They are also very soothing to the stomach. ***Since I have really fallen in love with tea lately, I thought I should post a link here if you would like to purchase some for yourself. wp-1448981373857.jpg

Tea and Cake Tuesday

wpid-wp-1445282137010.jpgLast week I was doing some cake decorating and had to change the cake design midstream. Sometimes things happen for a reason because the cake ended up being sold and the proceeds went to support a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk Team. I was really happy about being able to contribute to this cause and very please with how the cake came out.

Don’t forget October is Breast Cancer Awareness month so be sure to get a screening, support a breast cancer charity, and wear pink. For more information or to find a walk in your area visit cancer.org.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any cakier…

Dresses made of cake decorating materials, edible dresses…yes, dresses, clothing. I know it sounds weird and even a little inappropriate but they were oh so beautiful. Amazing. I could not attend the actually fashion show. The tickets we’re just to pricey but they dispayed the creations the next day and they we’re just stunning. I so enjoyed my time at the cake fair and actually got an  opportunity to see some of the cake industries biggest stars like Ron Ben-Israel and Collette Peters. I also got to meet some of my own cake idols I stalk on Periscope like Liz Marek.  I learned so much and was so glad for the opportunity to go. Anyway enough talk here are some pictures.

More then just cake…

I have had an amazing day. I didn’t think my time at the cake fair would relate to balance and moderation but it does. Here is how. Sometimes we have to moderate doing thing for others and remember to do something for ourselves. Don’t get me wrong it is great to give of yourself. It’s important to provide for your family. However, frequently we go to far we give to much. In the rare I instances went we do something for ourselves we feel guilt.

Living balanced a life requires you to sometime do something for you. Although I felt guilty leaving my husband and kids, I made today about me. I bought things for me. I learned about thing I enjoy. I took my time. I didn’t rush around. I savor ed my moments. Don’t get me wrong I miss my family immensely, but sometimes you need to be able to go solo.

I worked out with no howeling dog or fear of waking the house up.  I took a bath! Not a quick shower with someone asking you questions thru the door. A long leisurely relaxing bath! Now I plan to read a book. Yes, actually more then a page before I fall asleep. (I’m so excited)

My point is sometimes you need some time away to reflect on all that you are, the blessing you have, and life in general. I have not done that for a very long time. I did not understand at the time I planned this how much I needed it. If you feel frazzled, rushed and overscheduled like I have. Maybe it’s a sign you need to schedule you time. Trust me you will be happy you did.

Anyhow enough about me. Here are some amazing cakes that I saw at the fair. So much talent.

…And now for something totally different! CAKE

untitled

This weekend I have the pleasure of attending the American Cake and Sugar Craft Fair. Being a new cake decorator I have so much to learn and am so excited to attend this event. I had no idea that so much art can be created with food. Everyone needs a place where their creative juices get flowing. Expressing yourself creatively is part of becoming a more balanced individual. Now its the moderation of eating all that cake that I have to work on.

Anyhow, I will take a brief departure from the usual theme of this blog to bring you some of the sites of this event. If your not so much into the cake thing, just hang with me. We will resume our regularly scheduled post Monday.

Tea and Cake Tuesday

Made this cake for a friend’s daughters 18th birthday. It was such a joy to do something girly and pink. Take the time today to do something that brings you joy.wpid-20150905_131320-1.jpg

The Lion was made using a great youtube tutorial by cutecupcakesideas.net. It has some funky music.
